Margaret of Coole

Death on a Summer’s evening: The deadly ambush at Ballyturin House on May 15 1921. District Inspector Capt Cecil Blake, two British army officers, and Blake’s lady companion were shot dead. Margaret Gregory survived. (London Illustrated News May 28 1921)

Margaret of Coole, written by Gerry Conneely, is a radio play in five parts, broadcast on Galway Bay FM at 11am on the Keith Finnegan Show from Monday April 21st – Friday 25th April 2015.

The play tells the story of Margaret Gregory, wife of Robert Gregory, son of Lady Augusta Gregory. From the time before the first world war, where Robert was killed, to the war of independence. 
Set to the back drop of a changing Ireland in conflict.

Iaro Productions is a Galway based Theatre Company founded by Gerry Conneely and Riona Hughes which was set up in 2015 to bring new works to the stage and radio which bring to life significant historical events.

 

Riona has a masters in Drama and Theatre Studies from the University of Galway where she currently works as Socieites Officer. Riona has worked in theatre as a writer, director and produces and is also a singer. Riona produces large scale events, festivals, theatrical, literary & music events.
